Kirk Lawson
Soaring
A crow loosens tight wings
to joins its flock.
Upward flight,
orchestrated, airborne,
to sail in unison
beak to tail.
A sinewy dancer
bends at ankle and knee,
presses down to spring up.
Aligns with her troupe,
synchronous, daring
leaps of faith.
A tenor inhales space
releases jaw and ego.
Breathes deep into belly,
absorbed into
a collective Om.
Harmonizes tones into
A bigger blended voice.
But winds have changed,
the earth split open.
Avian entrapment,
troupes crushed,
choirs silenced.
Still, many will endure,
survive adversity and gather
together again to soar beyond
any one of us alone.
